ABOUT
RAQUEL
I started lifting weights in the gym at 14, I loved Les Mills Body Pump and Body Step (in fact, my mum was the instructor). When I left high school that was the first thing I did. I got my certificate in Group Fitness and Les Mills programs specifically and started teaching instantly. I even travelled to New Zealand to see Les Mills in action.
Eventually, I needed a challenge, I started working with a bikini model coach and won at a Local and National Level with ICN as a bikini and sports model. My body image was at an all-time-low.
I hated my body during this time and suffered with binge eating all through my youth, so when I gained 15 to 20kg post bikini modelling shows, I was so ashamed and disgusted in myself. I needed something that wasn’t body image focussed.
I found this thing called Powerlifting. I fell in love, I have competed multiple times and I have never looked back. It’s now a sub-element of my business, Ladies That Lift.
I have tried so many things, I have done the extreme things too and I have the wisdom to know that short-cuts don’t work, you must change your whole lifestyle and mindset to achieve long-lasting change.
I now have a coaching team of 3 (and growing). We believe in sustainable lifestyle practices and lifting weights consistently. What that looks like for everyone is different and that is why we tailor everything we do.
