Are you suffering from back pain?
Have you previously injured your back or faced a nagging back pain that “no matter what you do”, just won’t go away? You name it from herniated discs, sciatic nerve pain, ACL reco, scioliosis, to broken backs and the general back niggle we work it.
Back pain can occur for a multitude of reasons, and they are not one-size-fits-all. However, we can probably tell you 3 general things that you are doing right now that aren’t helping it.
We do know the power of understanding your own body and being able to be resilient towards the niggles and aches you feel, and training does that.
We speak to women every week who are scared and feel trapped in their bodies because they have lost confidence in themselves.
And honestly, I don’t blame them. They’ve been injured. They’ve been told to “be careful” or to “just rest.” Fear-based advice doesn’t build stronger, more able bodies.
Here’s a story that says it all:
A woman recently called us, and she has been struggling with severe back pain for years.
She’s working with a physio who told her:
✅ Just walk 20 minutes a day (10 minutes AM + PM)
❌ Don’t use gym equipment — it’s too risky
She ended up losing 20kg and built up her walking to an hour a day… but guess what? Her back still hurts.
She called us and wanted more advice, and our advice was simple. It’s time to start building up that muscle in your back now and learning how to manage pain rather than avoid it. Scary? Perhaps at first thought, but if you dig deeper into how this pain will continue to limit you, it’s far worse than building up your strength.
Now, let’s unpack this more:
- First off: Losing 20kg is huge — that’s like dropping a 20kg weighted plate off your spine every single day. Massive. HUGE WIN.
- Walking: Fabulous for circulation, lymph drainage, joint fluid, disc health. We love it.
- But ONLY walking and no gym equipment or other exercises? That’s where it falls apart.
Telling someone to avoid the gym completely? That’s how you keep someone weak and scared. Instead of giving them exercises (not stretches), the advice was too coddled, let’s say.
As female coaches, we’ve seen it too many times — clients afraid to move because they think they’ll break. That’s not protection. That’s programming fear into your bodies.
Here’s the truth:
If you’re scared to move, you’re more likely to get injured — not less.
Why? Because you haven’t built the strength, body awareness, or confidence to move well. You’ve been told to sit still instead of leveling up. We want to tell you that, you are not broken.
Injuries need rehab — not restriction.
Discomfort needs guidance — not avoidance.
And your back needs movement — not babysitting.
At Ladies That Lift, you can expect that we don’t coddle our ladies; we encourage and explore what they are feeling and work with it. We educate our ladies, and if you work with us, you know that each session you learn something new.
Moving isn’t the hard part, it’s believing in yourself and working with the pain instead of against of it. We know how debilitating it can feel but there’s light at the end of this tunnel, we can assure you.
Strength matters, and mobility helps.
And building trust in your body again is one of the most powerful tools you have access to.
You are not fragile. Your body is not broken.
You’ve just been told the wrong story — and it’s time to rewrite it.
